Stakeholder Engagement Workshop

Rift Valley Fever Decision-Maker Workshop

International Livestock Research Institute

Naivasha, Kenya, 30 September - 1 October 2014

In the aftermath of the 2006 epizootic, regional stakeholders established the Decision Support Framework (DSF) for the Prevention and Control of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) Epizootics in the Greater Horn of Africa (www.penaph.net/resources) as a comprehensive guide to outbreak response based on the best information and experience available at the time. The purpose of this RVF Decision Support Workshop was to revisit the existing decision support framework (Version 3) for RVF and identify enhancements to the framework based on new developments. These developments included new knowledge and information from the HEALTHY FUTURES project and other sources as well as changes in the institutional context in which RVF mitigation is undertaken. HEALTHY FUTURES outputs include hazard and vulnerability maps indicating current and future risk of the disease in the eastern Africa region as well as RVF transmission models.

A report on the workshop is also available to download.

Stakeholder Engagement Workshop

International Livestock Research Institute

Nairobi, Kenya, 24 - 25 February 2014

A stakeholder engagement workshop was held at the International Livestock Research Institute’s facilities in Nairobi, Kenya from the 24 - 25 February 2014. Representatives from government ministries and research institutes in the eastern Africa region were invited to attend the workshop. During the workshop the development and possible final form of decision support tools (DSTs) were discussed based on findings from HEALTHY FUTURES. The DSTs developed within the project aim to assist health planners in formulating, assessing and comparing strategies for managing human responses to risks posed by the target VBDs as a result of environment (including climate) change. The feedback provided by participants during the workshop is now being used to refine and further develop the DSTs.
